Nightclub Owner In GREAT WHITE Blaze Starts Work-Release Assignment

October 27, 2006

Rhode Island's Eyewitness News reports that Station nightclub owner Michael Derderian has begun his work-release assignment.

A spokeswoman for the state Department of Corrections says today that Derderian started his job on Monday, though department policy prohibits her from saying where he's working.

Derderian was sentenced to four years at the Adult Correctional Institutions last month after pleading no contest to involuntary manslaughter charges for the 2003 fire. His brother, Jeffrey, was given a suspended sentence with community service and probation.

The fire killed 100 people and injured more than 200 others. Corrections spokeswoman Tracey Poole says Derderian chose the job. Former GREAT WHITE tour manager Daniel Biechele is working as a bookkeper for a nonprofit agency in Woonsocket.
